Chinese herbal medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is a safe and effective way of treating both acute and chronic conditions. It involves the use of substances from nature, mostly plant origin and some mineral and animal substances*, to regulate and normalise body function. Individual herbs have different healing properties and affect different areas of the body. Several herbs are blended into a precise formula where they work synergistically together to treat the individual condition and provide optimum health. (*Melinda does not use any endangered plant or animal products.)

Whilst other medical approaches often merely aim to relieve the symptoms, Chinese herbal medicine aims to treat the underlying cause of health problems in addition to providing relief from symptoms and is therefore more wholistic and longer lasting with very few side effects, unlike some pharmaceutical medicines.

Melinda prescribes high quality, high strength, clinically tested Chinese herbal medicine in the following forms:

Granulated herbs - simply dissolve in warm water and drink
Capsules or Pills

They are all easy to take and do not involve any tedious preparation or fowl tasting concoctions of raw herbs, often associated with Chinese herbal medicine. They are all potent and easily absorbed by the body to enhance the therapeutic effects. Melinda will choose a specific formula and dosage to treat your individual condition. As your condition improves, the formula and dosage may be modified until your health is restored. In some cases raw herbs can be prescribed if needed. Other nutritional supplements may also be recommended, as required, to improve the efficacy of the treatment.

Lifestyle and dietary advice, based on the principles of TCM, may also be provided where required. Melinda will make recommendations based on your individual constitution and health condition to achieve and maintain your optimal health.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the prevention of illness and thus long life. The food we eat and the way we live greatly influence our health. Positive lifestyle and dietary advice can significantly facilitate and enhance the treatment outcomes of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in addition to minimising the number of future treatments required and ultimately preventing further illness.

Chinese herbal medicine and/or lifestyle and dietary advice may be used alone or in conjunction with acupuncture and other TCM therapies to enhance treatment outcomes. See also Acupuncture for more details.
